What CIOs Actually Need from AI: Not Answers. It’s Business Context.

Vinay Saxena
The feel good phase of Generative AI is ending. When things were simple, Generative AI was more of an ‘answer-engine’. Can the AI write this code? Can it summarize this report? Can it answer this customer query? Cut to today, and we see the simplicity being increasingly replaced with enterprise complexity. For the modern CIO, a sophisticated ‘answer engine’ is useless if it doesn't understand the environment it’s operating in. In 2024 and 2025, the race was about getting AI to summarize documents or write code. In 2026, the goal has shifted.

From Data to Decisions: The 4-Layer Model Most CIOs Never Get Past

Vinay Saxena
The leap from "having data" to "making decisions" is where enterprise value goes to die. While global IT spending is projected to grow 0.8% in 2026, officially crossing the $6 trillion mark for the first time, the maturity of that spending often hits a structural ceiling at the normalization phase, leaving CIOs with expensive dashboards that provide plenty of "what" but zero "so what."

The Visibility Trap: Why Seeing Your IT Stack Still Leaves You Out of Control

Vinay Saxena
In the modern IT estate, we’ve been told that visibility is the holy grail. If you can see it, you can manage it. But for most IT leaders, reality feels more like a hall of mirrors. You have more "visibility" than ever, yet you feel less in control.

What "decision grade" data actually looks like

Nanda Vijadev
Vinay Saxena
Asato turns fragmented IT data into decision‑grade intelligence through normalization, classification, linking, scoping, and scoring. The result is accurate, consistent, and continuously improving data that leaders can trust for licenses, renewals, and shadow IT decisions.

The Knowledge Graph that knows 'SFDC' & 'Salesforse' is actually just Salesforce

Vinay Saxena
Nanda Vijadev
Asato’s asset knowledge graph (MKG) is the intelligence layer that enables accurate IT asset optimization by solving foundational data issues such as inconsistent naming and noisy application inventories. It begins with multi‑signal entity resolution, using fuzzy logic, semantic vectors, purpose-built embeddings, and aggregated scoring to reliably match products despite typos, abbreviations, or ambiguous labels. Once an entity is correctly identified, the MKG enriches it with deep metadata, including application type, business function, vendor lineage, compliance attributes, and risk posture, enabling meaningful filtering and classification.

You don’t have 6,000 Apps. You have 60

Nanda Vijadev
Vinay Saxena
CASB and network discovery tools often report hundreds or thousands of “applications” in an enterprise environment. While technically accurate, these numbers are misleading because they include every service detected in network activity, not just the tools employees actually use for work. The list typically contains infrastructure services, CDNs like Cloudflare and Akamai, authentication endpoints such as accounts.google.com, browser extensions, APIs, and backend platform components. When these are treated the same as real applications, Shadow IT detection and license optimization become unreliable.

Why your user count is 3X your headcount. And, why that’s not a bug

Nanda Vijadev
Vinay Saxena
Organizations often see identity counts in systems like Entra ID that are two to three times higher than their actual employee headcount. This is not a data error, it’s because directories track every identity object, not just human employees. These include service accounts, guest users, shared accounts, test accounts, agents, disabled identities, admin accounts, federated users, and orphaned accounts discovered across systems. When platforms label this raw number as “Total Users,” it creates confusion because IT leaders expect “users” to represent people.

Your IT data isn’t dirty, it’s multi-truth

Nanda Vijadev
We break down why enterprise IT numbers rarely match reality and how contradictory identity, application, and spend data erodes trust. We dig into how inflated user counts, noisy app discovery, and fragmented purchasing emerge from systems that are each locally correct, and why true accuracy requires curated, decision‑grade data enriched with context, normalization, linkage, and consistent scoping.

How we’re building business observability at Asato

Vinay Saxena
Asato’s CTO, Vinay Saxena, believes true business observability demands more than dashboards, it needs an AI-native, execution-first foundation. He emphasizes starting fresh: no legacy BI, no bolt-on AI. Instead, a system that links context to action, enabling enterprises to understand, decide, and execute, all in one intelligent loop.
